Barefoot running or running in barefoot shoes?

Barfuß-Running oder Running in Barfußschuhen?

Barefoot Running may sound crazy at first and is often packed in the drawer of the hippies and dropouts. Very few people think that we were born barefoot. Before modern high-tech shoes were invented, we ran, run and jumped barefoot or with improvised minimal shoes.

Why barefoot running at all

Many come to barefoot running because they feel increasing problems when running in the joints. Often, visits to the doctor, even with specialists, lead too little improvement. A syringe for pain relief and the advice to stop running to protect the joints are common procedures. For athletes who need running as a balance, this can be quite frustrating.

The question arises as to why the human species develops such joint problems in the course of their lives that do not occur in the animal world at all. What do we do differently or even wrong? Quite simply, we wear shoes that change our natural movement.

Running shoes can cause joint problems

Modern running shoes are designed in such a way that they are slightly higher in the heel area and have a high damping. In most carriers, this leads to the fact that they take the heel while running and the steps overall will become significantly longer. The hard putting on the foot over the heel leads to a strong shock wave that goes through the whole body and at some point it is noticeable in the joints. The strong damping properties of running shoes buffer the strong shock somewhat, but the joints are still loaded with every step.

What happens in barefoot running?

The movement is intuitively adjusted during barefoot running. After the first steps, which you often carry out as usual, the movement is quickly adjusted. The advent on the heel is far too hard and shocked the whole body. Without thinking about it, the step is adjusted to avoid the unpleasant, hard putting on the foot. The foot is automatically put on the bale in order to dampen the step. This makes the steps significantly shorter than when wearing running shoes.

Unfortunately, today we are already stopping the development of the foot muscles in small children by placing them in shoes. If you run barefoot, your whole foot works. As a result, you build muscles and thus become significantly larger or wider. Where muscles are needed and trained regularly, they also develop.

In addition to the muscle growth in the foot area, you have another positive effect on the many nerve pathways that end in foot. The sensors in your feet perceive the impulses of the floor and pass them on to the brain. This can be unusual at first or maybe even a little overwhelming. In the end, the so -called sensory feedback is extremely important because it protects us from injuries. The movement is intuitively adapted when it becomes bezig, slippery, sandy or rocky. The interaction of sensory feedback and strong muscles and ligaments ensures that every run is absolutely stable and safe.

Animals in the wild can flee to the part of it when they feel in danger. Even in flight mode, the movement is always safe and controlled. That would no longer work if you bind something to your hooves or paws, because this is how the sensory feedback is completely lost.

Change to barefoot running

As already mentioned above, it is usually the case that when the foot runs barefoot running, more on the bale than on the heel. This avoids the unpleasant strong shock, which quickly leads to pain in the joints. However, many not only changed their foot by carrying shoes through the permanent carrying of shoes, but the entire gait picture.

In most people, the switch to barefoot running is quite good after a certain period of familiarization. Others complain about pain and return to their conventional sports shoes. If you feel pain in the joints and ligaments after running training, this is always an indication of overuse. This can have two causes:

1. The movement sequence is correct, but your muscles, tendons and ligaments are not yet used to barefoot running.

2. The running style is not optimal and damages your muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Since you are probably difficult to assess yourself whether you have an optimal running style, it is advisable to consult a barefoot coach. These specialize in analyzing and correcting your posture. With the support of a special coach for barefoot running or barefoot running, you can be sure that you develop a healthy and natural running style.
